Students and families in the Piedmont community are participating in an "X the Text" Campaign during the week of September 13. "X the Text" is sponsored by the Interact Club and Allstate Insurance and is a program designed to increase awareness of the dangers of texting while driving. Texting while driving is not just a teenage problems; many adults do it as well. Sheena Batson with Allstate Insurance introduced Piedmont High School to this campaign based on a passion expressed by Interact Club member Caroline Brewer. Students will view a texting PSA each day this week in an effort to encourage them to take an oath to "X the Text". During the football game on Friday night, both students and families will be asked to sign a pledge not to text while driving by placing their thumb print on a banner. Everyone who pledges not to text will receive a thumb band as a reminder to "Save it 4 L8R." As Interact advisor Leslie Perruquet stated, "Texting while driving is not just a student issue. This campaign is designed to increase family awareness of the dangers of texting while driving." Join the Piedmont community by taking the pledge to "X the Text" and save texting for L8R!
